Islay, Queen of the Hebrides,  the southernmost island of the inner Hebrides.

The island's capital is Bowmore where the distinctive round Church can be found. You can travel to the island by ferry or plane. The island is serviced by two ports, Port Askaig and Port Ellen and  the airport with daily direct flights to Glasgow. From its west coast Northern Ireland seems so close you could almost touch it.

Islay is the fifth-largest Scottish island and the eighth-largest island of the British Isles,

The island had become part of the Gaelic Kingdom of Dalriada during the Early Middle ages and was once part of the Norse Kingdom

Today, it has over 3,000 inhabitants, and the main commercial activities are agriculture, whisky distillation and tourism.

Islay is home to many bird species such as the wintering populations of Greenland white fronted and barnacle geese, and is a popular destination throughout the year for birdwatchers
